That’s a Promise.

Our company’s motto “That’s a Promise” goes back to the beginning when we first started making feed for horses. As a family-owned and –operated company with a deep appreciation for horses, it was clear to us even back then: when you put the horse first, you always win. This was the philosophy of the second-generation chairman of our board, Ernie Horn Jr., and he made us promise that this would always be the case at Pennfield.

We put the horse first in three clearly definable ways. Ask your current feed company if they do the same.

#1 Consistency: Fixed formulas. Fixed ingredients. Period. A few feed companies say they are ”fixed formula” but that only means the formulas’ percentages of fat, protein and fiber are fixed. They may have added desirable and nutritious beet pulp one week for fiber, then put in an unhealthy filler like peanut hulls the next week when beet pulp prices spiked. You expect consistency from your horses. It’s a good start to give them the same in their feed bucket.

#2 Quality: The best ingredients money can buy. Natural-source Vitamin E costs twice as much as the synthetic version, but it’s also twice as bioavailable. But the real key is this: lab testing shows no significant change in blood levels of Vitamin E with horses fed synthetic form, whereas those fed natural-source had a directly proportional elevation. Translation: Vitamin E really doesn’t do any good unless it’s natural.

Pennfield’s commitment to these tiny details that matter in big ways is seen by uniquely choosing only natural-source Vitamin E and selenium, chelated trace minerals, highly digestible super fibers, and sourcing our beet pulp, grains, and other ingredients from the same family farms and long-proven suppliers year after year, decade after decade. The result of optimum caloric density and nutrient bioavailability means you can feed less of a Pennfield, a healthier choice for your horse (and your wallet).

#3 Choice: We don’t let marketing drive product decisions. Other major brands market a feed that is “ideal for your whole barn, every breed and activity level”. Hmmm. Something that’s “ideal” for a yearling is probably not ideal for a performance mount, and it’s certainly not putting the horse first. That’s why Pennfield offers nearly three dozen formulas… horses have individual needs, as do their owners. Give us a call to help you select the Pennfield feed(s) best for your horses. The most complex breeding and training operation imaginable might need a handful of formulas, the average barn far fewer, to give each horse a virtually custom feeding program that unlocks his full potential.

Putting the horse first. That’s the Pennfield Promise.
